Edge-Enable is a proposed transnational education partnership between the Centre for Artificial Intelligence and Innovative Technology (CAIIT) at the University of Abuja and the University of Chester, developed for the British Council’s Going Global Partnerships programme.
Together we are building the curriculum, the quality-assurance framework and the local teaching capacity for Responsible and Sustainable Embedded & Edge AI — anchored in CAIIT’s flagship strength as home to Nigeria’s first MSc in Embedded Artificial Intelligence.
Edge AI runs models on small, low-power devices near where data is collected, instead of sending everything to distant, energy-intensive data centres. It uses less power, needs less connectivity, and keeps working off-grid — the conditions that matter most across much of West Africa.

A stackable certificate in Responsible & Sustainable Embedded & Edge AI that articulates into CAIIT’s MSc Embedded AI.
A carbon-aware computing module
A new module that teaches engineers to weigh the energy and carbon cost of every deployment — choosing on-device inference over the cloud.
A joint UK–Nigeria QA framework
A quality-assurance framework mapping the certificate to UK QAA benchmarks and Nigeria’s NUC guidelines — published openly for other universities to reuse.
A trainer pipeline that stays
25 CAIIT and Faculty of Engineering staff certified as in-house Carbon Literacy trainers, so training continues long after the project ends.
Campus delivery infrastructure
Software, simulation and benchmarking tools, and hybrid-delivery equipment installed at the Abuja campus to sustain delivery locally.
A joint funding pipeline
A costed pipeline of Horizon Europe and Erasmus+ targets to carry the Chester–Abuja partnership beyond its first phase.
Built for places where power, connectivity and budgets are tight.
